Watch this space for information on Score it 2025

The 2025 Score It program will run in a similar fashion to 2024. In mid-January, animations from the Griffith Film School will be posted on this website for students and teachers to access and download. The submission date for formal Score It entries will be at the end of Term 2, allowing teachers to embed this activity in either their Term 1 or Term 2 curriculum. We'll then review submissions over the June/July holidays and will inform finalists at the start of Term 3. All submissions will receive feedback and finalists will be given coaching to get their scores ready for live performance at the Conservatorium in November.

Azar and her young daughter Nedah share a sheltered life in a home surrounded by trees. Their routine is disrupted when Nedah encounters a bird’s curious chirping; she innocently repeats its cadence causing the trees that confine their garden to part and reveal an outside world of wonder. With Nedah wanting to explore this new world, and Azar terrified of what lies ahead for her youngest child, will Azar once again repeat her mistakes?

A Special Gift

2D Animation (2023)

Our story follows Robert, a young orphan moth living with his best friend Emma near a derelict church. With Christmas approaching, Robert aims to surprise Emma with a wagon, but lacks one single coin. After a challenging search to obtain the coin, Robert arrives too late to buy the wagon. Defeated, a chance encounter with a garbage worker and discarded trash inspires a creative solution. The next morning, Emma wakes up to her ‘special gift’, and a heartwarming celebration of their friendship.

Unfortunately, we will not be including a video game trailer for the 2022 event, however this will commence in 2023.

Step two: Create your score

Students are allowed to orchestrate their film score for as large or small of an instrumentation as they wish, as long as they use the instruments provided in the list below.

Scores selected for live performance will need to have a click-track provided by the composer, so keep this in mind!

Step Three: Submit your score

The submission form will close on 10 June 2024 for scores and video files with a midi audio soundtrack.

Parts are not required to be extracted, and there is no requirement for a click track in the audio file at the initial submission stage.

Teacher endorsement

To ensure that schools and teachers are aware that a student will be representing the school in this event, we are asking that teachers endorse any student submissions. Teachers will need to confirm that the score is complete and meets the submission requirements. We'd also ask teachers to consider whether the student will be able to incorporate the feedback given, and export a score and parts in a timely fashion (with or without your help).

There are two ways for teachers to endorse a student’s submission:

  • teachers can write a quick email to the student endorsing their submission, and the student can copy or screenshot that email and include it in their submission form (complete with date, teacher email address, etc)
  • teachers can do the online submission on the student’s behalf and make a note of this in the submission form.

Notification of Selected Scores

Although it will be difficult, the judging panel will find a way to select one favourite score for each animation trailer.

Those selected composers will then have a chance to be workshopped by Conservatorium students, alumni and academics in early Term 3 before submitting the final score and parts by late July.
