Support we provide

All students with a disability, injury or health condition are encouraged to make an appointment with Student Disability and Accessibility so we can better understand your needs.

After your appointment, our team may help arrange reasonable adjustments to your study or professional placements such as:

  • alternative exam conditions such as additional time, separate venues or equipment
  • formatting print materials into other formats
  • captioning or transcribing audio-visual materials
  • access to assistive technologies
  • access to note-taking services
  • access to our Deaf Student Support Program
  • access to participation assistants or other support as appropriate.

Please note: We do not provide tutoring or personal care.

Deaf Student Support Program

The Deaf Student Support Program has been operating at Griffith University since 1985 and provides customised support and services for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students:

  • Auslan interpreters and captioning services
  • access to class notes and transcripts
  • alternative exam arrangements
  • reasonable adjustments for professional placements
  • transcription of audio-visual material (if not already captioned)
  • access to assistive listening devices and technologies.

We also co-ordinate Auslan interpreting services for Griffith groups and elements for their own events and activities.

Assistive technology

At your appointment, we may recommend using assistive technology to help enable your study.

We have eight Assistive Technology Labs across our campuses with computers for students who are vision-impaired or have a learning or physical disability.

Workstations in the labs contain:

  • screen-enlargement software
  • screen-reading software
  • voice-recognition software
  • word-processing software for users with reading and writing difficulties
  • a Braille embosser
  • scanner and laser printer
  • document magnification resources.

NDIS appointments on campus

NDIS coordinators visit Brisbane South (Nathan) and Gold Coast each trimester to offer free consultations for students and staff.

Book a free 30-minute appointment to:

  • help understand or access the NDIS
  • create, implement or review your NDIS plan
  • connect with other government and community supports.

Gold Coast

Appointments are held on the Friday of Week 4 of each trimester at G33 Student Centre, Level 1.

Brisbane South (Nathan)

Appointments are held on the Tuesday of Week 4 of each trimester at N12 Sewell Building, Level 1.

Assistance animals on campus

If you require an assistance animal on campus, you'll need to submit a completed permit form to the Facilities Manager for approval.

For Brisbane and Logan campuses, forms must be submitted to and approved by the 

For Gold Coast, your permit forms must be submitted to the for approval.

Getting around campus

Our campuses are located on what is often hilly terrain. To get around a little more easily, anyone on our campuses can access our security transport service. This service uses a University golf cart to take you from point A to B.

The Campus Support Team is also available to accompany people to their car if leaving the campus late at night, or anytime you feel unsafe.

Mobility scooters

Student Disability and Accessibility has a number of mobility scooters staff and students can book to move about Brisbane South (Nathan) and Gold Coast.
